Green Thumb

Our 1st tomato! After 2 years of trying, we harvested our 1st tomato. I don't have a green thumb, but my daughter does. Her nasturtium seedlings are popping up too. I know spring is here because I have former pots of dirt sprouting green and my orchid has several blooms as well. I don't mean to kill plants, but I often forget to water them. Although I have fancied green garden dreams inspired by reading books such as Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, I know that is a dream out of reach for now. I will enjoy the tiny tomatoes that my daughter loves and that will sustain us.

  1. Yes!! you are on your way to a great harvest!! Your daughter must have the green thumb. It is exciting to get the first harvest...even if it is one tomato! Good luck for the rest of the season. Jackie http://familytrove.blogspot.com/

  2. I'm so enjoying your posts about fresh food (esp. since it's so cold up here now). First strawberries and now tomatoes. ENJOY!

  5. I think I'm a true suburbanite, because it still amazes me when anything in the ground grows, especially things that are edible. Hope it was delicious.

  6. Whatever the opposite of green thumbs is, that is me. I completely identify with this. So great that your daughter has better luck. I love these little tomatoes!

  7. I love your one, little ripe tomato celebration. I would celebrate it, too. Besides, tomatoes are my favorite food on the planet! :)

  8. Wow! Tomatoes are still a dream up here. Enjoy that juicy flavor. I don't do much gardening myself (It's too much work that comes just as school starts), but I do enjoy the fruits of my husband's labors. He does big scale gardening and canning. Trust me, 50+ tomato plants are way too many for the five people who share the garden.

  9. I love those fresh, garden-grown tomatoes, too. Our crazy Virginia weather has us at 50 today and snow tomorrow night, so tomatoes are still a way off in our future.

I've found that part of my problem with watering is I water too much. Finding the right balance is tough. But one tomato at a time!
