What R U Reading?

I decided to read a poem a day for 2022. I had two collections picked out and my friend gave me an anthology as well. I decided to read a poem a day since it is an area that I am not well read. I also decided it should be contemporary poets as again, I am not well versed in the poets of my time. I am currently reading How to Love the World which was given to me by my friend and fellow blogger, Lee Ann. It should take me through April. I picked up the Living Nations collection edited by our current US Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo. I became fascinated with her work after I heard her speak at NCTE. This collection is part of her work as Poet Lauureate. Check it out here. My final choice is a collection that I have been eyeing for awhile and when I saw a signed copy, I couldn’t resist. I have read Kingsolver’s fiction and nonfiction, so now it’s time for her poems. These titles should keep me busy through the summer. What collections or poets do you suggest I add to my 2022 poetry quest.

  1. How to Love the World is on of my favorite poetry anthologies! My local bookstore is named Wild Geese after the Mary Oliver poem, and the owner recommended How to Love the World for me because I love Mary Oliver's poetry. I have added the other two to my list! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I have no recommendations, but I think I want to look into reading what you've shown here! I'm a ridiculously avid reader and I'm always trying to get my students to try new genres. I've been trying to do the same lately and I think adding poetry to my repertoire sounds like a great idea!

  3. So, I want either a duvet cover or a sofa in the floral print from the cover of “How to Love.” Thank you for the recommendation! I enjoyed Amanda Lovelace’s in this one the princess saves herself. Several of my students are reading it now.

  4. I love poetry, but don't read many anthologies, unfortunately. I tend to read YA novels-in-verse though. Thank you for sharing these. I like the idea of reading a poem a day.

  5. Joy Harjo's work is amazing! You might also appreciate Terrance Hayes, Mixed Feelings.
