Daylight Savings Time

I love daylight savings time. I don't like the jump forward so much, but I love the extra daylight which means more time for me to play. Daylight savings time is a good reminder to refresh our update things such as the batteries in your smoke detectors or in my case, the sharp in my lancet. Daylight saving is also a great push to get you out in your yard and plant or play.   My co-workers hate the idea of heading to work at literally dark-thirty, I don't. I feel more productive in the sunny afternoon and eve.  It is, however, a danger for the high school students in my district who have to be at school by 7:20.

This switch is always a scary proposition as they wait at unlit bus stops or walk or ride the dark streets to school.   My high school is literally surrounded by a swamp that eats light. Two things I can always be assured of, it will be much colder at work and it will be darker. The advent of the cell phone is actually a savior in this daylight savings time switch since I can actually identify the teens loitering at their teacher's door their phone gleaming like the tiniest star.  I am not sure what would happen scientifically if we stopped participating in this process, but I do know that toward the end of the week my students, co-workers, and I will feel it most keenly. I will, however, bask in the sunlight tonight as I do my workout.

  1. Thanks for posting this positive entry about the time change for your SOLC. I had a tough time with the time change today. During my commute to school, I was extra groggy, and it took a second cup of coffee before I was truly (almost) awake! (Great job doing your workout, too!)

  2. It isn't dark for long here. In the northeast sunrise is close to 7 AM. I too enjoy the light in the afternoon. Hope you had a great sunny workout!

  3. Oh, I'm with you....even though is dark when I leave the house, give me Daylight Saving time anytime of the year. Being able to enjoy the day a bit longer just brings so much joy! And of course, time for a great workout as well!

  4. I also love our longer evenings with light! I still prefer to wake up early and exercise because after teaching I just want to relax and be with my family.

  5. I had difficulty waking up this morning. I am not a morning person so I prefer the light to remain in the morning! Either way we still have 24 hours in a day whether they are light or dark as long as we make the most of them!

  6. We don't change time, and of course, our days are getting longer all on their own. Soon (well, weeks from now) it will start getting light at 5 am, then 4:30, then 4:00 and I will curse my body that believes it must rise just before the sun. Right now, it's about perfect. But I do love this time because I'm now an hour closer to you. :)

    1. I love that hour closer idea. I miss my morning light though. I'd happily cloth my workout in darkness and let the light travel west.

  7. I, too, don't mind the early morning darkness. Not when I can be outside, chatting with neighbors and watching the kids play right before dinnertime. That is bliss.
